Volkswagen's Audi plans to more than double its annual production capacity in China to 700,000 units by 2015, a newspaper reported on Tuesday, as it expands its presence in the world's biggest auto market.
Audi models are made at Volkswagen's car venture with China's FAW group. The current facility is capable of manufacturing nearly 300,000 Audi cars per year.
By 2015, the number of Audi dealers in China will rise sharply to 500, up sharply from 185 now, An Tiecheng, general manager of FAW Volkswagen, was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
In the first half of this year, Audi sold 140,699 cars in China, up 28 per cent from a year earlier.
It aims to sell 1 million cars in China over the next three years, its chairman Rupert Stadler told Reuters late last year.
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG and Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz are also ramping up capacity in the country.
