China Southern Airlines, one of China's top three carriers, will receive its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner in the fourth quarter of this year, Xinhua news agency reported.
The jet will be the first Boeing Dreamliner to be delivered to a Chinese airline, Xinhua said late on Thursday, citing Boeing CEO James McNerney.
The 787, a light-weight, fuel-efficient jet, has generated about 850 orders worldwide as of November 2010 but has also been dogged by engineering, labor and supply chain problems.
Air China and China Eastern Airlines had placed orders for 59 of the 787-jets years ago, but delivery had been postponed.
