ConocoPhillips has a “unit upset” leading to the flaring of gases at its refinery in Westlake, Louisiana, according to a filing to the National Response Center. The incident happened at 3:05 pm local time yesterday, according to the report.
US refineries must notify the response center if they release hazardous substances in excess of reportable quantities, according to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, commonly known as Superfund. Bloomberg News couldn’t immediately verify that the information in the NRC filing was accurate.
