Egypt's General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) said on Monday it had bought 66,500 tonnes of rice from the local market through a tender. Nomani Nomani, vice chairman of GASC, said in a statement the price range was 2,750-2,990 Egyptian pounds ($481.3-523.3) per tonne.
The quantity was due to be supplied to consumers under the subsidy programme between November 10-30. In its latest tender on October 9, GASC bought 79,450 tonnes of rice from the domestic market at prices between 2,347 and 2,480 pounds per tonne.
