Eurofighter said it expects global demand for its Typhoon jets to hit 300 over the next 20 years, with the Gulf Arab region representing a big chunk of orders, its chief executive said on Tuesday.

"We estimate the market for fighter jets globally is 800 in 20 years," Enzo Casolini said at the Dubai Airshow.

"For Eurofighter, we target 300 global export contracts. For the Middle East I'm targetting, to be pessimistic, 50 aircraft, optimistic a 100."

Casolini said Eurofighter – a consortium comprising Britain's BAE Systems, Italy's Finmeccanica and EADS, representing Germany and Spain – saw steady demand from the Gulf Arab states.
