Greek lender Millennium, a subsidiary of Portugal's largest listed bank Millennium bcp, said on Thursday finance director Rui Coimbra will be its new chief executive, taking over from George Taniskidis. The bank said the management change was part of aligning the Greek unit with Millennium group's corporate governance model which separates the CEO and chairman roles. Taniskidis turned down an offer to stay on as chairman. Coimbra was a deputy finance minister in Portugal in 2001-02. The bank also appointed bcp board member Luis Pereira Coutinho as chairman of the Greek unit. "The bank's strategic priority is the maintainance of its capital adequacy and its healthy portfolio," Coimbra said in a statement. Millennium Bank-Greece runs a network of 177 branches and employs 1,500.
