Kuwait restarted its largest oil refinery on Thursday evening after shutting it down in the afternoon, an official at state refining unit Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) said on Friday.
An official said the refinery had reached more than 50 per cent of refinery capacity, and was expected to reach full capacity on Saturday.
Kuwait fully shut down the Mina al-Ahmadi refinery on Thursday afternoon due to a problem with the water cooling system.
The refinery has capacity to refine 460,000 barrels per day.
An official for KNPC told Reuters on Thursday the refinery could resume operations later that evening, adding it would take 48-72 hours for the refinery to reach full capacity.
KNPC runs the OPEC exporter's three oil refineries which have a combined capacity of around 930,000 bpd.
