Nomura Holdings Inc. appointed Glenn Schiffman to run its investment-banking unit in the Americas as Japan’s largest securities firm boosts hiring in the US. Schiffman, who joined Nomura when it bought parts of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. in 2008, currently heads investment- banking in Asia outside Japan. Colin Banfield and Patrick Schmitz-Morkramer will jointly replace Schiffman, according to an e-mailed statement from Nomura today. Nomura is seeking to bolster its US workforce by about 23 per cent to 1,600 people by March to expand investment-banking and fixed-income operations in the country. The company bought Lehman’s businesses in Europe and Asia, while Barclays Plc acquired the firm’s US operations. The appointments are effective February 1, subject to the receipt of relevant US licenses and regulatory approvals, the release said. Tomoko Iino, who previously led investment banking for the Americas, will become co-head for the region, Nomura said.
