The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) have explored best mechanisms to accelerate implementation of joint projects, estimated at Dh96.7 million, to improve living and humanitarian conditions of the families in the Palestinian territories and Diaspora camps in several Arab countries.
The Dh47.8m Sheikh Khalifa city in Khan Yunis, Gaza, and the Dh85.5m reconstruction of Beit Hanoun are among many of the under-construction RCA-UNRWA projects.
RCA Secretary General Mohammed Al Qamzi has recently welcomed Mr. Peter Ford, Representative of UN Relief and Works Agency's Commissioner-General, for discussion on field developments in a number of joint construction projects for improving living conditions of families inside Palestine and Palestinian refugees camps in Syria and Lebanon.
The RCA signed in last March two agreements with UNRWA for reconstruction of Palestinian refugees camps in Lebanon. The first Dh22m agreement called for building 343 housing units at Burj-al-Shamali Palestinian refugee camp. Some 10,000 refugees will benefit from the project which will be completed in 20 months.
The second agreement provided for building 149 houses on Nahr al-Bared camp.
The meeting also reviewed progress of construction in the Nerab camp in Syria. The 150 house project will cost Dh18.4m and be ready by May of next year.
