Royal Dutch Shell Plc had a “process upset” that resulted in the flaring of sulfur dioxide at its refinery in Mobile, Alabama, according to a filing to the National Response Center. The incident happened at 6 am local time yesterday, the report said. US refineries must notify the National Response Center if they release hazardous substances in excess of reportable quantities, according to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, commonly known as Superfund.
