The UAE has issued a joint statement with East Timor, on establishing diplomatic ties with effect from Friday. The statement was signed on behalf of the UAE by Ambassador Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman, UAE's Permanent Representative to United Nations, while Ambassador Nelson Santos, East Timor's Permanent Representative to UN represented East Timor Republic. Other diplomats from both countries were present during the event. The joint communique stresses the interest of both governments to boost understanding and cooperation in the political, economical, social, humanitarian, cultural and scientific areas as per the principles inscribed in the UN charter. Following the signing ceremony, Al Jarman and his Timorese counterpart discussed ways to help enhance the relations.
